The agony of linux dependencies
Arrrggghh.... the better part of a day wasted on trying to wrangle gcc upgrades on a linux box. What a tremendously huge pain in the ass. One thing is dependent on another, which in turn conflicts with a whole gaggle of others. What a clusterfuck. Then, of course I find "./configure --disable-gcc-checking" which might have told the g*damned program in question not to bother checking for gcc versions.
Trouble is once you take that first step forward it's three-dozen steps around-in-blind-circles until your machine compiles again.
I guess if's sort of like left turns in Boston or, better yet, one way streets in DC. Next thing you know you're in a tunnel and the signs start welcoming you to another state. Or perhaps zork, you're in a maze of twisty passages, all alike.
...sigh...
