<mt:excerpt>What's the possiblity of the European opposition to the US being about more subtle issues? </mt:excerpt>
	<mt:more>
Many of the US government objections to participation in treaties and world organizations are often founded on the unconstitutional nature of them. While many EU countries may have abdicated their citizen's rights to democratic representation, the US does not want to do follow that lead. So while it's all the rage to lay blame at the feet of the US for it's unwillingness to participate in the Kyoto accord or the World Court as some sort of imperialism, it's just not true. The US government has many reasons but most frequently it won't engage in such things as they impinge US citizens rights and the Constitution.

I prefer a government that's beholden to it's citizens. While the democractic process may be fraught with inefficiencies it's a hell of a lot better that the alternatives. Time and time again when so-called altruistic ideals are presented they crash hard on the realities of human nature. Petty selfishness, greed and lust for power aren't going away any time soon, folks.

Look carefully at who you let act on your behalf. Then look hard at what it takes to put in different people. It's called VOTING you idiots! The sin of omission from people not voting is what's causing quite a few problems.

The 2004 election is rolling around quicker than you think. What are you doing to make yourself aware of potential candidates? What are you doing to educate yourself on the means necessary to effect change? What looming foreign policy issues stand to destroy democracy while pretending otherwise?

Get involved or shut the fuck up.
</mt:more>
