<mt:more>
Sure, seeing anyone die is a bad thing. Now, what's worse, them dying as unintended casualties of a direct conflict or seeing them die as a result of being killed by their government, one they have no choice or control over?

At what point is them dying because of outside apathy become any less worse than direct attempts to change their admittedly wretched conditions?

Standing idly by for a decade while they continue to suffer and die didn't work. Propping up their government for other geopolitical goals didn't work to begin with. Continuing to watch their governments torment and abuse their cititizes doesn't work. Unless of course one only cares about theoretical morals instead of the real world.

War is indeed a terrible thing. Apathy masquerading as moral indignation is likewise a terrible thing.
</mt:more>
