Well, the site was offline for a few hours while some rearranging of things took place. Virtual hosting and RedirectMatch directives are your friends.
It does raise the question of how MT could be improved to better handle site related URLs.
It'd be quite handy to have short, simple Macro directives of some kind to allow for utilization of resources different than the main hosting site. As in, give me a way to spec an absolute URL of a different server for the purpose of image and other 'heavier' resources. I've found that hacking process_tags into the templates works nicely. The trackback tags don't get updated properly, but that's a whole other issue.
I'm wondering about how to couple detected traffic stats with rebuilding and offsite storage. Perhaps to cobble together something like, whoops traffic is out of control, divert to another site ASAP!
