Suprises from Verizon
What a mess. Apparently a pole transformer 'caught fire' last Friday. This necessitated a repair of the cable serving my location. They returned dialtone to the line about 6 hours. The trouble is...
THEY GAVE ME SOMEONE ELSE'S LINE.
Morons. I asked the guys, still up on the pole, to fix this. Of course they didn't. They just packed up and bugged out. To make matters worse when I call them I'm told that the earliest they can address their incompetence is Monday. What a mess.
So I'm stuck using dial-up until then.
UPDATE: on Monday afternoon they resolved this. Apparently there were four such switches. The guy doing the repair work commented he couldn't understand how the mistake got made. And I asked, it wasn't the violet/slate pair that got swapped, it was the orange/white (you'd have to know telco to get that).
