Extra, extra get your wheel, your reinvented wheel
What's the saying? Oh yeah, everything old is new again. Apparently CDF is now retro.
Gee, I've been generating CDF output for quite a while. Both here and on my Syndic8 site. I'd even linked to it back in '01. That and we used it internally back in late '97/early '98. Back when PointCast hadn't yet screwed the pooch (but we well on their way).
If you want to add CDF output to your own site I've even made a template for MovableType.
What's intriguing about CDF is that it was released waaaaay back in '97 and still does things RSS can't. Like decent scheduling, for one. It's a fine way to do software updates, news channels and even a screen saver.
But hey, apparently the shepherd guiding the CDF flock at MS must've 'rested, vested and bailed out'. Sort of a shame, really.
But hey, it seems everyone's so busy whipping themselves up into a frenzy about how evil Microsoft is they deprive themselves of the cool stuff. Grab nose, spite face.
Meanwhile, those of us who recognize good tools when we see 'em continue to chug right on by.
