Yet another drive crash
Cripes, yet another one of my machines has decided to have a drive crash! This time it's the linux box that's been running my mail.
What is it lately? Is there some planetary aligment going on that's causing drive assemblies to die? This is happening to IDE and SCSI drives alike, old and fairly recent.
Here's a suggestion, go NOW and make a fresh backup of your current data. Run, do not walk, to your nearest supplier of DVD burners and get one. Then go burn an easy-to-recover copy of your important data onto at least one copy.
It's just damned frustrating to have this happening, one after another, on machines you otherwise utterly depend upon.
I had the same thing happen to my Linux drive. It sucked. But I got the data off the other two good drives with a Knoppix bootable CD. And I got my name in the paper.
Here's hoping you can somehow recover the data you need.
