Driver ignorance

Wake up you idiots, when the lights are out at an otherwise signal-controlled intersection you MUST STOP. It's the same as a four-way stop sign. You're not supposed to just barrel through the intersection!

I witnessed an accident because of this. A car I was following was obviously not going to stop. Neither was the idiot in the fast-approaching SUV from the right. BAM! They ran into each other. They extracted themselves from their airbags and staggered about. I stayed their long enough to offer an eyewitness report to the police. I told the cops neither vehicle stopped and they were BOTH to blame. Idiots.

Likewise two other accidents I came across were exactly the same. Both idiots assumed no-signal meant no-stop.

What's worse here is the driver ineptitude most definitelty seems economically and socially related. There's no nice way to put this, in parts of town not known for their income level, the number of people running the lights was exponentially higher. I had to travel far and wide in search of ice (damned Pepco didn't plan for enough) and I ended up having to drive into parts of town I don't usually frequent. I gave up. The danger of continuing to drive among these idiots was not worth the risk. It seems the concept of poor, immigrant, minority and stupid is alive and well in these motorists. I hate to say it but sometimes the truth is that ugly.

Folks if you're not aware of it already when the traffic lights are out you MUST STOP. It doesn't matter if there's nobody else at the opposing lanes, you MUST STOP. That's each vehicle! When it's four lanes across then all lanes must stop. And when there's opposing traffic you must only proceed one set of cars at a time. Not two, three or four. Each row MUST STOP, one set at a time.

Meanwhile, I've found myself a convenient residential location with some free WiFi. Nice signal, just no convenient power outlet for the laptop. Ah well.

Good call. During the blackout last month, I found a lot of this.
