Winer continues to flail
Apparently Dave's off his meds again. He's once again embarked on a shit-stirring campaign disguised as an outreach effort. Do not be fooled. Winer is an con-man of the highest order and should never, ever be trust... FOR ANYTHING.
Alas, the trades have picked it up: Merger For Rival RSS/ATOM Formats? So it bears commenting upon. (Sorry, Sam)
Pirillo's got it right, if a tool doesn't support what the users want they'll go elsewhere. For the forseeable future any tool worth it's salt will support both RSS and Atom. This sabre-rattling on Winer's part is just plain FUD.
The short story is everyone got fed up of Dave Winer being an insufferably narcissistic megalomaniac and worked together to collaborate on something new. Dave immediately attacked this effort for everything it wasn't. Fortunately the folks involved soldiered on, diligently doing the hard work it takes to create open standards. They're not yet done but they're getting close.
Meanwhile, as usual, Dave continues to blather on with his FUD. Don't be fooled, his ravings are little more than the dying gasps of a washed-up has-been. One that's so thoroughly destroyed his reputation among his peers that he's utterly beyond redemption.
So the real news? Nothing new, the Atom folks are working hard, Dave's trying to distract people and the users still don't need to care.
